Tallinn’s Historic Hotels – The von Stackelberg Hotel Tallinn

The von Stackelberg Hotel Tallinn is widely recognised as being one of the most opulent buildings in the city and certainly one of the most popular choices of accommodation for visitors to the city. The hotel has a history that is innately linked with one of the city’s most illustrious families, the von Stackelbergs.

1. The history of The von Stackelberg Hotel

The original building was not a hotel, but instead was intended to be the city home of Baron Theophil von Stackelberg. The Baron commissioned the building of the house in 1874 and incredibly, given its scale and grandeur, the building was completed just a year later. The Baron and his family lived in the house for six years, until he sold it to a Doctor Johannes Fick in 1881.

2. The modern Von Stackelberg Hotel

The large scale of the building meant it could adapt perfectly to life as a hotel, with its many rooms providing ample and luxurious accommodation. However, by the end of the first decade of the 21st century, it was apparent that the hotel needed refurbishment to bring it up to modern standards.

Unique Hotels, owners of the site, agreed to a mass of sympathetic refurbishments which set new standards in quality accommodation in Tallinn when it was completed in 2011.

The hotel offers four types of room. The first is a superior room with flat screen computer monitors, internet access, heated bathroom floors and many other amenities. Other rooms include ZEN Rooms, ZEN Deluxe Rooms and ZEN Suites that offer a private extension of the ZEN Spa facilities at the hotel.

While the spa offers relaxing facilities and a range of treatments for guests, each ZEN room features Jacuzzi baths and aromatherapy bathroom luxuries.

3. La Boheme Brasserie & Bar

Guests can also dine in La Boheme Brasserie & Bar and in the summer, there is nothing more pleasant than enjoying drinks in the elegant Courtyard.

It seems fitting that for a city that has been granted Capital of Culture status for 2011, that any visitor should enjoy the rarefied setting of Tallinn in a hotel that not only has strong links to the city’s heritage, but also offers unparalleled quality and luxury into the bargain.

Also consider Unique Hotel’s other Tallinn properties, Kreutzwald Hotel Tallinn and City Hotel Tallinn. Kreutzwald dates back to the mid-20th century and has a range of luxurious rooms and packages, while City Hotel Tallinn is a newer building suited to budget-conscious travellers.
